A Conversation w/ Vu Le

Vu Le, a prominent voice in philanthropy, will be a part of two EquaSpace events. The first will be exclusively for EquaSpace 1 tenants and the second, which will be co-hosted by the Minneapolis Public School District Career & Technical Education program (MPS-CTE), will be for the general public. Additional details forthcoming.

About Vu Le

Vu Le (“voo lay”) is a writer, speaker, vegan, Pisces, and the former Executive Director of RVC, a nonprofit in Seattle that promotes social justice by developing leaders of color, strengthening organizations led by communities of color, and fostering collaboration among diverse communities.

Vu’s passion to make the world better, combined with a low score on the Law School Admission Test, drove him into the field of nonprofit work, where he learned that we should take the work seriously, but not ourselves. There’s tons of humor in the nonprofit world, and someone needs to document it. He is going to do that, with the hope that one day, a TV producer will see how cool and interesting our field is and make a show about nonprofit work, featuring attractive actors attending strategic planning meetings and filing 990 tax forms.

Known for his no-BS approach, irreverent sense of humor, and love of unicorns, Vu has been featured in dozens, if not hundreds, of his own blog posts at NonprofitAF.com

These events are sponsored by CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen LLP)

EquaSpace Learning Lab: Marketing Workshop w/ Brave Co.

Our mission is to provide a platform of high-functioning workspaces, shared knowledge, resources, and opportunities for collaboration. With our sights set on opening EquaSpace 1 later this year at the Court International Building in St. Paul, MN, we look forward to connecting in our shared workspace!

As we prepare for the opening of EquaSpace 1, we are also launching programs focused on continued learning and giving our community access to shared resources to support your organization. The learning experiences and resources will be available through the EquaSpace Learning Lab.

The first event being hosted by the Learning Lab is a marketing workshop that will be facilitated by Craig Pladson, Founder & CEO of marketing consultancy Brave Co. During the workshop, Craig will highlight relevant nonprofit marketing trends and facilitate a panel discussion on how to more effectively activate a marketing strategy for your organization. At the end of the workshop, you will be trained on a method used to uncover audience insights, help you prioritize marketing activity and unlock creativity.

EquaSpace Learning Lab: Marketing Workshop

Marketing your nonprofit comes in many forms, whether it be crafting your organization’s narrative to make it more more compelling to your audiences, creating meaningful content to engage donors and sponsors or developing campaigns to increase brand awareness and acquisition of new customers.

These are only a few examples of where you could focus your marketing efforts. Knowing you have limited time, resources and budget, it’s critical to remain intentional and iterative. This is best accomplished by understanding your audience, having clear objectives for your organization and taking an experiential approach that allows you to learn and iterate along the way.

This 2-hour, in-person workshop is custom-built to help you overcome these challenges. Our time together will be split into three different areas.

  • Trends and inspiration: an at-a-glance view of what nonprofit organizations are doing to market their business, meant to gather inspiration and build confidence in your intuition to try new things.

  • Thought-leadership and conversation: a conversation and Q+A with subject matter and industry experts, focused on storytelling, content creation and user acquisition.

  • Education and training: an overview and practical hands-on example for how your organization can use Motivations and Barriers, one of Brave Co.’s human-centered marketing methods.

The workshop will be held at P.F. Cafe (Northrup King Building, Suite 114, 1500 Jackson St SE, Minneapolis, 55413) at on Thursday, June 13th from 2pm-4pm, with appetizers and optional happy hour immediately following.

Please contact Kevin Vollmers at kqov23@gmail.com if you and/or your staff are interested in attending. Space is limited.
